Cider has been making a comeback in the past 5 years, and Minneapolis is totally on board. Granted, we’ve got a ways to go compared to colonial days when people drank more cider than beer. However, you can find great cider without having to leave the city limits. Here are three of our favorite tap rooms and cider houses:
Number 12 Cider House:
Enjoy up to 16 taps of distinctive cider made with traditional techniques. Despite being Minnesota’s largest cider house, you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere and lots of community spirit here. Check their Facebook page for specials and events like $2 discounts for school staff, book club meetings, and extended hours during Twins home games. After all, they are just one and a half blocks from Target Station at Target Field in the North Loop. If you get hungry, Little Tomato serves wood-fired pizza from their truck permanently parked outside. Just like pure cider, the pizza is gluten-free.
Sociable Cider Werks:
Sociable Cider Werks in Northeast Minneapolis started small and is still growing. You and your guests are welcome in the taproom and outdoor patio, but remember they’re brewing cider here so the air is fragrant and the floors may be wet. You can also bring your own food, and it’s dog-friendly. Plus, there’s plenty of logo merchandise if you want to expand your wardrobe.
Urban Forager is a crowdsourced winery and cider house making hard cider, honey mead, and fruit wines. You can drink them in the taproom or buy cider and wine by the bottle to take home. You can also contact them if you have fruits and flowers to pick because they rely on crowdsourced ingredients, as well as old fashioned minimal processing in stainless steel casks in small batches. Bring your own food, eat their snacks, or call ahead to see if any food trucks are expected. Trivia nights are Thursdays and winery tours and tastings are on Sundays.
