Man playing the guitar and checking out local music stores

Explore the Best Music Stores in Minneapolis

Do you enjoy listening to music or playing an instrument? If so, visit one of these music stores in Minneapolis where you’ll find everything from the latest CDs to acoustic guitars:

Groth Music

A local fixture since 1939, Groth was Minnesota’s original music superstore. Founder Chester Groth was a professional musician who sought to bring a quality music store to the Twin Cities. The shop quickly earned a stellar reputation and remained in its original location for nearly fifty years. Today, Chester’s daughter runs the business. She carries on her father’s legacy of offering the finest products at reasonable prices. The varied selection includes guitars, violas, and folk music.

The store also offers lessons for nearly every instrument. They’re led by skilled instructors, and welcome everyone from beginners to experienced musicians.

Hymie’s Vintage Records

A community favorite for over 30 years, Hymie’s is a spot where music lovers find a collection of both old and new records. Founder Jim Peterson earned the nickname Hymie during high school Spanish class. He wanted a gathering place where everyone could talk about their favorite albums. New owner Adam Taylor continues Jim’s tradition of providing unparalleled service and rare finds. The store features nearly all genres, and with an ever-changing selection, there’s always something different to discover.

Fifth Element

Established in 1999, Fifth Element is an independent hip hop store featuring incredible sales throughout the year. It’s popular among locals and visitors alike and offers everything from CDs to music memorabilia. The staff boasts extensive knowledge, and they enjoy helping shoppers discover new artists. Fifth Element also hosts in-store performances and signings to bring visitors closer to their favorite musicians.
